Happy May Day!

It’s official…May is here. That means summer is right around the corner. We still have a lot of work to do before then but we do have a lot of fun things planned as well.

We will continue in reading working on Charley Skedaddle through the end of the year. Each day students are expected to write in their journals. This is a daily assignment that some need to finish at home. Be looking for those!! In science we are gearing up to finish our unit on Force and Motion. This week and next will be dedicated to simple machines. At the end of the unit, students will have a post assessment however it is open book. The battles continue in history as the students visit the Shiloh, Antietam, and Vicksburg battles of the Civil War. This unit fits in so nicely with our novel study in reading.

Welcome back….from Spring Break!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break. We are back in full swing and getting ready to finish up the year! Just a reminder that there is no school on Friday (April 6th). Hope everyone enjoys their 3 day weekend!

Things will be continuing as normal for the final 2 months.

  • In reading we have kicked off our poetry unit. We spent time talking about what poetry is, what it represents, and various parts of a poem. In the coming days we will analyze poems and then have the opportunity to write some of our own. Keep an eye out for your authors to be sending those home!
  • Science brings us to Chapter 13 – Forces in Motion. Look for a parent reference pack to come home on Tuesday. This will be an exciting chapter as there are a lot of hands on activities.

Just a quick reminder….if you child is ill and will not be in school, please contact and let us know. We are able to get work together and can plan accordingly if necessary.

ISAT Week of 3/5

It’s official….we have our first ISAT test done and over with! Today the students took the first of three math ISAT tests. They will take two more math tests, Tuesday and Wednesday, and then finish out the week with 3 reading tests. They have worked hard all year and it’s time to show it!

Please keep in mind how important it is for the students to be here. Physically being here is much different than mentally being here. The students need to have enough sleep and a good breakfast each day. Remember that breakfast is offered at the school as long as they are here at the appropriate times.

What’s Happening Week of 2/27-3/2

Happy Monday! If you haven’t heard already, it’s the week before our ISAT state testing begins. The test will include 3 math tests and 3 reading test. We have been learning and practicing skills all year that will help us do our best, however, this week we are fine tuning and putting it into overdrive. Please make sure you talk to your child this week and next about the importance of taking their time, following directions, and making sure to look back into the text/question for hints. This is what a lot of them are forgetting to do!

It is going to be extremely important that all students are here next week! We will be testing Monday-Friday and finishing the last reading test Monday the 12th. We ask that all doctor’s appointment are scheduled after school or the following week.

What are we learning? In science we spent Monday concluding our discussion on physical and chemical properties. Make sure to ask your student which type of pop is buoyant and why!! We will spent our week preparing for our friendly boat building competition where students will work in groups to design the most buoyant boat that will hold the most cargo!

History starts a new chapter 11 which looks at whether or not colonists should declare independence of not.

Students will continue to refine their math skills for ISAT!
